THE SCHOOL AND OUR REUNIONS · In 1962 the high school system changed in NSW. The ‘Wyndham Scheme” started. No more new recruits for the old, outdated 5 year Leaving Certificate. The school system would cater for a new wave of talented, fit and good looking baby boomers. So started the era of the 4 year School Certificate and the 6 year Higher School Certificate. And the first batch of HSC students was the BEST!! · In 2007 it was 42 years since the first School Certificate graduates, and 40 years since the first Higher School Certificate graduates, completed high school. So it was high time for a reunion. Thanks to the forward thinking of Steve McEvoy and Ian Ritchie in March 2007 a meeting site was booked and the momentum started. Bob Sims provided a list based on year 10 in 1965; the list grew to contain almost 200 names. The super sleuths, led by Valerie Round (Brown), were set loose to track down the long lost friends, and so far over 130 have been traced. Paul Fredrickson created this web site and still manages it. · The 40th anniversary reunion, held on 28 October 2007 at Bobbin Head in Ku-ring-gai National Park, was attended by over 70 talented people; mostly parents, some grandparents. · The follow-up 41st reunion was held on 26 October 2008, also at Bobbin Head. It also was well attended and included many people who were unable to attend in 2007 or who were more recently ‘discovered’. · In Oct 2009 many of us turned 60yo; so there was even more reason to get together a third time to celebrate our high school days and our 60th birthdays! We met at Bobbin Head on Sunday 18 October 2009. Birthday cakes and presents galore. In Oct 2010 quite a few of us gathered again at Parramatta Park on 31 October. The atmosphere was convivial and relaxed. Most took part in a short chaotic netball game for oldies. · In Oct 2011 there was a gathering in Yamble Reserve on Quarry Rd close to the Ryde High School site. About 20 people enjoyed a picnic. Oct 2012 saw a similar gathering of the diehards at Yamble Reserve. And again a group met in Oct 2013 at Yamble Reserve. In 2014 there was a reunion lunch at North Ryde RSL, then again on 18 October 2015. · In November 2017 we had a Grand Gathering of ex-Ryde High 1962-67 students to celebrate 50 years since the HSC. This was a more formal evening affair with food, drinks, special cake and entertainment. It was attended by 65 people. · In October 2022 we held a gathering to celebrate 60 years since we started at Ryde High. Let’s hope the reunions will continue. Let us know what you think. THAT RYDE HIGH OFFICE STAFF KEPT PHOTO ALBUMS ? Ryde
High shut down in 1985. The School Office was then cleared
and various records and paperwork were moved to Peter Board High School at
North Ryde for storage. The stuff included
the Official Photo Albums which were prepared by office staff over the
years at Ryde High. In 1998 the Peter
Board School too was shut down! Luckily Jenny Cavenagh, an ex-Ryde High
student, worked as Librarian at that school – she held onto the albums when
that school office was cleaned out.
She has been carefully restoring and scanning the albums. Check

Notes on Ryde High Reunion 1970-1973-1975. Thirty ex-students and several partners
enjoyed catching up at the Commandment Rock Picnic area in Lane Cove NP on 8
November 2025. There were lots of photos, trophies and memorabilia to look at
which stimulated a lot of smiling and chatting. Everyone enjoyed
catching up. If other ex-students in our cohort who
could not attend on the day want to make contact, please email Jenny Cavenagh (Wilson) at cavenagh@bigpond.net.au and have your
details added to the database. We are planning another casual catch up in
November 2026 and would be pleased to welcome other students who attended
